The Ripple Effect

What is the Ripple Effect and how can this effect your health?

Let me share an example of my own with you all that I believe explains the Ripple Effect and the effect it can not only have on your health but everything around you.

Several years ago, I was working for one of the largest US based IT companies in the world, and as someone who had been in the IT industry for 20 years felt that I not only knew my job but was very good at it.

I had just joined a new part of the business and an email came through from one of the senior Vice Presidents in America telling us all that we are releasing a new product soon, and that everyone not only needs to learn this product but record a 20-minute video pitch of this product. The video recording would then be uploaded and the senior team in America would rate everyone on their delivery of the product.

As soon as I read this email I went into a spiral of negative thoughts and emotions.

This one email had taken a 20-year IT veteran into a panic. I believed the thought ‘I can’t do this’.

The result of this was I ignored the weekly reminder emails for a month. For a month I became more stressed, I feared getting emails, I began to doubt myself in other areas of my work.

This is the Ripple Effect!  An outside stimulus, in this case an email (God help the world if I was a Policeman, Fireman, Soldier, or any of those other jobs that do actually face real danger on a daily basis, if I went into a spiral of fear over an email!) This led me to believe the thought ‘I can’t do this’ which then caused me to feel fear and the outcome was that I did nothing for a month.   The ripple began: I feared opening emails, my work suffered, and I became stressed.  Just like a ripple on water when you throw in a stone, the ripple begins to spread out.

The thing with the Ripple Effect is that it begins to spread. It spread into my personal life. I was stressed with this email, so the ripple began to permeate my relations with my partner and my friends, as I wasn’t as loving and fun.  My work stress carried over into my interactions with them.

The stress at work that I felt from this email began to affect my heath – I was stressed, which ask any medical professional is not conducive for good wellbeing. I began to eat and drink more.  The Ripple Effect was now affecting all areas of my life.

One email rippled out to my work, my relationships, and my health.

What happens if you throw several stones at once in the water?  You get multiple ripples that begin to interact with one and other.

My stress at work began to interact with my relationships and health.  The stress in my relationships and the impact on my health began to ripple back into my work. I’m stressed in my private life, so my stress carries back into work. I don’t feel 100% in my health, so my work suffers.

Can you now begin to see the Ripple Effect and how just one email can cause so much impact?

So how do we stop these Ripple Effects?

The thoughts believed that cause the Ripple Effect, aren’t always easy to spot, especially by the person having the thought.

The only way to do this is by the person themselves. By empowering the individual to recognise the thought believed and dissolving this thought. This stops the Ripple Effect.

This is where the Self Empowerment Journey (SEJ) comes in. A process that empowers the individual to recognise the belief, dissolve the belief and stop the Ripple Effect.  Hence the name – The SELF EMPOWERMENT Journey.

So, let’s go back to my story. After a month of doing nothing, I received an email telling me that I was the last person left who hadn’t done the video and uploaded it.

It was at this point that I used the SEJ Process and dissolved the belief that ‘I can’t do this’.

In an instant, the Ripple Effect was stopped.

It took me 45 minutes to learn the product, record the video and upload it. I actually enjoyed the process and I shut down my laptop with a real sense of achievement and joy!

I had moved from a place of fear and shame to a place of pride in my work, and joy in completing the task.

A week later the results of the task came out and I got 100% and came joint 1st out of a global team of 100 people.

So, by practicing the SEJ process I not only moved from a place of fear to a place of joy, I stopped the Ripple Effect, but more importantly I reached my full potential.

This is the power of the SEJ process.
